Personal and familial hardship, even of a tragic nature, will not constitute exceptional reasons for bail pending appeal where the evidence of hardship lacks particularity and independent support, and where the prospect of success on appeal is reasonable but not strong. If the appellant was properly convicted, hardships caused by imprisonment are consequences of the offending for which only the appellant is responsible.
