A 40% discount from the starting point for a plea of guilty and remorse alone (without genuine assistance to authorities) is unduly generous, being in the range appropriate to offenders who have put themselves in danger by providing real assistance. However, where the sentence actually imposed is within the permissible range, the error in the discount does not render the sentence manifestly excessive.
