A sentence of 12 years' imprisonment for the rape of an 80-year-old woman in her own home by an offender with two prior sexual offence convictions was not manifestly excessive. Current sentencing practices are a relevant consideration, and a sentence of 12 years for aggravated burglary was manifestly excessive where the highest previously imposed sentence for that offence was 7 years. The Verdins/Tsiaras principles regarding reduced moral culpability do not apply where there is no evidence of mental disorder at the time of the offence.
