The distinction between loss of earning capacity and loss of earnings does not avail a plaintiff where the trial judge has found no causal nexus between the compensable injury and the financial loss claimed. A rational apprehension about safety following a traumatic event is not, without more, a manifestation of PTSD sufficient to establish causal connection between psychiatric injury and a decision to leave employment. New claims for diminished earning capacity on alternative bases cannot be raised for the first time on appeal where they were not put at trial.
