Adult persons who use the internet to procure children for sexual activity contrary to s 474.26(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth) can ordinarily expect to receive a term of immediate imprisonment. In such cases, general deterrence is paramount and good character will receive less relative weight in the sentencing exercise. A sentence of two years and six months with eight months to serve was within range for a first offender who pleaded guilty to a single count involving calculated and predatory conduct.
