Parity considerations are diminished where a co-offender was dealt with in the Children's Court for a lesser offence under a different sentencing regime, though the sentence imposed in the Children's Court remains a relevant consideration. Delay in sentencing juvenile offenders may have greater significance than for adults, but does not necessarily require a non-custodial sentence where the offence is serious. Courts should make every effort to dispose of juvenile sentencing proceedings expeditiously.
