A pre-contractual statement under s 14 of the Consumer Credit Code may constitute an offer capable of acceptance and form a binding loan contract when signed and returned by the borrower. An employed solicitor at a lender's instructed law firm has authority to sign loan documents on behalf of the lender, and even if authority is lacking, ratification is established by the lender advancing the loan and taking the benefit of the transaction. The addition of 'per' to a signature block is not a material alteration. A practising solicitor appearing for himself is not entitled to be treated as an unrepresented litigant.
