A dissociative disorder that has manifested on multiple occasions constitutes a 'disease of the mind' for the purposes of the sane/insane automatism distinction, because it reveals an underlying pathological infirmity prone to recur. The presence of an external trigger (such as a phone call from an ex-spouse) does not convert insane automatism into sane automatism where the reaction arises from a pre-existing mental disorder.
