A total effective sentence of six years imprisonment for commercial drug supply of approximately 5.4 grams pure methylamphetamine and subsequent possession of approximately 2.3 grams pure methylamphetamine, where the offender pleaded guilty, volunteered information about an unknown offence, was on parole and then bail, and had an extensive criminal history, was manifestly excessive and was reduced to four and a half years. The comparable case of R v Swan, which involved factually similar offending but resulted in a higher sentence, was distinguished on the basis that Swan was convicted after trial rather than on a plea of guilty.
