The court's jurisdiction to direct a voluntary liquidator under s 511 of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) is not more limited in scope than its jurisdiction under s 479(3) with respect to a court-appointed liquidator; the qualification is one of purpose ('just and beneficial'), not scope. A court will approve a liquidator's compromise of litigation under s 511 where there is unusual personal risk to the liquidator that could negatively affect the winding up process, but will not make commercial decisions for liquidators absent special circumstances.
