Where an offender is sentenced as a serious drug offender for a trafficking offence committed while on bail for similar offences, the discount for an early guilty plea may be limited to its utilitarian value alone, without additional credit for remorse or rehabilitation. The serious drug offender provisions and bail aggravation may justify a higher sentence even where the drug quantity is lower than in a co-existing offence that attracted a lesser sentence.
