The customary sentencing range for possession of methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply involving quantities between 3g and 65g is 2 to 4 years' imprisonment, though sentences may be higher. Where a totality challenge is raised, the real issue is whether the total effective sentence is excessive, not whether individual sentences are excessive. A total effective sentence of 9 years for five serious drug offences involving three different drugs and organised interstate courier arrangements was not disproportionate.
