The slip rule power to correct accidental errors in orders exists independently of Rule 50C of the Criminal Appeal Rules and is not limited by the 14-day time constraints in that rule. However, the discretion to correct sentencing orders will not be exercised where the sentences actually imposed are within the proper range, the respondents have acted in reliance on the orders, and the public interest in sentencing consistency is served by the identification of the intended sentences in the published reasons. A letter to the Registrar merely asking that a matter be brought to the Court's attention may not constitute an 'application' under Rule 50C(2).
