Voluntary disclosure of sexual offences otherwise unlikely to be discovered warrants a significant sentencing discount beyond the discount for an early guilty plea. A sentencing judge must not infer that an offender is attempting to shift blame to the victim where the offender's police interview and other evidence are only consistent with the offender providing context while accepting full responsibility. Where an aggravating factor depends on an inference, the inference must be the only reasonable one available, consistent with the beyond reasonable doubt standard.
