A hold that the accused readily dislodges, followed by the complainant grabbing at the accused's legs while on his knees, is insufficient to raise self-defence under ss 271(2) or 272 of the Criminal Code 1899 (Qld) where the accused is physically stronger and the complainant is unarmed. The degree of violence of the assault must be assessed in context, including the relative physical capacities of the parties.
