A sentence of four years and six months' imprisonment for a first offender who pleaded guilty to a single rolled-up charge of obtaining financial advantage by deception involving approximately $312,000 in breach of trust was manifestly excessive. On resentencing, three years and six months with a non-parole period of one year and nine months was appropriate. The case provides a useful comparator for sentencing in employee fraud/breach of trust cases in Victoria.
