A driver proceeding on a green traffic light is not required to stop at the stop line and check for pedestrians before crossing a pedestrian crossing; the mere fact that vehicles in adjacent lanes are stationary is not sufficient to put a driver on notice of a pedestrian on the crossing where the stationary vehicles are equally consistent with compliance with a preceding red light. Requiring a driver to stop at a stop line when the traffic light is green would impermissibly impose strict liability.
