A sentencing judge is not required to state a mathematically precise discount for a guilty plea; the expression 'about 25 per cent' is sufficient and does not indicate error, particularly where other mitigating factors such as remorse are also being taken into account in the intuitive synthesis. Requiring mathematical precision would encourage the deprecated practice of imposing sentences in years, months and days.
