For sexual offences against a child under 16 involving a consensual relationship where the complainant was a willing participant, a sentence of three years imprisonment was manifestly excessive where comparable cases attracted sentences of two years, and the appropriate sentence was two and a half years reflecting the applicant's prior conviction and breach of bond. The totality principle does not require moderation of cumulative sentences where the separate offending (here, assaults) was egregious and committed independently of the sexual offending.
