An employer who adopts a work method devised by a third party without providing specific instructions to an inexperienced employee regarding the safe handling and placement of hazardous materials created by that method breaches its duty to provide a safe system of work, even where the employee knew the materials were sharp and placed them in the position that caused injury. Future superannuation loss must be calculated by reference to legislated increases under the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Amendment Act 2012 (Cth).
