Where co-offenders are sentenced together and one co-offender falls to be sentenced for significant additional unrelated offending, the parity principle requires that the co-offender with the more extensive offending receive a greater total effective sentence, even where the other co-offender bears greater culpability for the joint offending. The case also illustrates the interaction between parity considerations and the serious violent offender provisions under ss 6A-6F of the Sentencing Act 1991 (Vic).
