In serious injury applications under s 134AB(16)(b) of the Accident Compensation Act 1985 (Vic), a trial judge's reasons are adequate where express findings combined with findings necessarily inferred from the reasons read as a whole disclose the path of reasoning. Where a judge qualifies acceptance of a plaintiff's credibility but still grants leave, the reasons need not separately catalogue each accepted consequence provided the basis for the conclusion is discernible from the reasons as a whole.
