Appeal grounds against sentence must be framed either as specific identifiable errors in the sentencing process (per House v The King) or as claims of manifest inadequacy/excess, not as failures to give proper or adequate weight to particular matters. A claim of manifest inadequacy should be framed by reference to the relevant facts and circumstances, not by reference to alleged errors or failures by the sentencing judge. Judicial notice should not be taken of propositions that cannot be clearly formulated to the court.
