Deal with proceeds of crime offences may display independent criminality warranting a separate effective penalty even where the proceeds were obtained through substantive fraud offences committed by the same offender, particularly where the use of the funds consummated the irrecoverable loss to the victim. When imposing aggregate sentences under s 53A, indicative sentences need only state the term of imprisonment for each offence without specifying commencement dates or non-parole periods.
