Where domestic violence offending involves multiple episodes on separate occasions with different victims, total concurrency of sentences is inappropriate as it effectively merges distinct episodes of offending. Mitigating factors such as early plea of guilty, remorse, and rehabilitation prospects, while relevant, must not be given disproportionate weight relative to the gravity of the offending, the impact on victims, and the sentencing purposes of deterrence, denunciation and community protection.
