A sentence of 15 months' imprisonment with a 9-month non-parole period for perjury (rolled-up charge based on three false sworn statements to police) and attempting to pervert the course of justice (relocating a vehicle and staging a charade) was manifestly excessive where the offender was of previous good character, had no prior convictions, a stable family and employment history, entered an early guilty plea, demonstrated remorse, and had very good prospects of rehabilitation. The appropriate sentence was 12 months' imprisonment with 8 months suspended. Cumulation of part of the sentence on the second charge was erroneous where the offending constituted one course of conduct.
