A sentence of 4 years 6 months for manslaughter by stabbing was manifestly inadequate where the offender deliberately armed himself and followed the victim, notwithstanding significant mitigating factors including youth, good character, the victim's prior violence, and the threatening situation. The appropriate sentence in such circumstances was 6 years 6 months. Pre-2008 manslaughter sentencing decisions (before abolition of double jeopardy in State appeals) are of lesser utility for comparative purposes.
