A court may accept a simplified approach to calculating prejudgment interest (using a single commencement date rather than calculating interest on each instalment from its due date) where the amount involved is small. Under UCPR r 36.4(3), a judgment may be ordered to take effect from the date of the earlier reasons for judgment rather than the date of the consequential orders.
