The sentencing range for child pornography possession offences, after discount for guilty plea, is between 18 months and 5 years head sentence, as established by recent Crown appeal decisions. Approximately 25% of material in the most serious CETS categories (4 and 5), combined with 700-800 child victims and 1,145 items including 390 videos, places offending at the highest end of seriousness. Sentencing judges need not view all material where CETS categorisation sufficiently reveals the nature and gravity of the offending.
