An acquittal on self-defence grounds does not necessarily involve a finding that the defendant lacked the intention to kill or cause grievous bodily harm; therefore, an acquittal on one murder charge on self-defence grounds is not factually inconsistent with a conviction on another murder charge arising from the same episode. The nature of the weapon, number and location of wounds, and the defendant's immediate recognition of the seriousness of the injury are capable of supporting an inference of intention to cause grievous bodily harm.
