The sentencing range for unlawfully doing grievous bodily harm with intent to do grievous bodily harm is five to eight years' imprisonment, with sentences of seven to nine years having been imposed after pleas of guilty. A parole eligibility date should be set at the one-third mark where an offender with no prior criminal history pleads guilty (even late) and the plea saves the cost of trial and trauma to witnesses, unless the sentencing judge provides reasons for departing from that position. Reinstatement of an application under r 69(4) of the Criminal Practice Rules 1999 (Qld) takes effect from the date the application was originally filed.
