Proof that an accused used fictitious online identities to lure a complainant is neither a necessary nor sufficient element of a rape charge where consent is the only issue; the central question remains whether the jury could be satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that the sexual acts occurred without consent. The duration of jury deliberations is irrelevant to an unreasonable verdict appeal. Evidential gaps from lost or destroyed materials will only render a verdict unreasonable in exceptional circumstances where the omissions give rise to a positive inference in favour of the appellant or render the evidence as a whole inherently unstable.
