Where the complainant's evidence in a sexual offence case is contradicted by other Crown witnesses on critical matters — including the nature of the alleged offence and the fact of prior complaint — the cumulative effect of those contradictions may compel the conclusion that the verdict is unreasonable, even where individual inconsistencies might not suffice. The jury's own partial verdict (acquitting on the more serious charge) may be used to demonstrate the unreliability of the complainant's evidence.
