Pleading specific workplace support procedures and their non-implementation does not introduce a new cause of action where the original pleading already alleged failure to provide a safe system of work and adequate support. However, pleading a new triggering incident that founds a different pathway to liability does constitute a new cause of action. In negligent failure to act cases, causation must be pleaded by identifying the counterfactual — what the defendant should have done and how it would have prevented the damage.
