The definition of 'greater Melbourne' in s 64(1) of the Land Tax Act 2005 (Vic), as it stood before the 2014 amendments, extended to the areas within the boundaries of former municipalities listed in the Third Schedule to the MMBW Act as those boundaries existed immediately before each municipality ceased to exist, not merely to the City of Melbourne. Statutory provisions that refer to abolished legal entities can operate on the historical facts of those entities' existence and boundaries. The 2014 amendments replaced this definition with references to current councils.
