For serious offences of grievous bodily harm with intent under s 294 of the Criminal Code (WA) not in the worst category, the customary sentencing range after trial is approximately 4.5 to 8 years imprisonment. A sentence of 6 years imprisonment (after a 15% guilty plea discount) for a premeditated, sustained domestic violence attack causing life-threatening injuries falls within the customary range and is not manifestly excessive. Offences against separate victims arising from the same episode of domestic violence do not constitute a single invasion of the same legally protected interest and may properly attract cumulative sentences.
