Deliberate failure to comply with procedural rules and court directions over an extended period, combined with unsupported claims of impecuniosity and ancillary proceedings as explanations for delay, constitutes an abuse of process warranting dismissal of an appeal for want of prosecution. Bare assertions of limited financial resources without supporting evidence (tax records, bank records) are insufficient to establish impecuniosity as an explanation for delay. The interests of justice in applications to dismiss for want of prosecution encompass not only the interests of the parties but also the public interest in efficient use of court resources and the interests of other litigants.
