A notice of appeal that takes the form of a narrative submission responding to practically every paragraph of the judgment below does not comply with UCPR r 51.18, which requires that the notice state briefly but specifically the grounds relied on in support of the appeal. Where a self-represented litigant has had difficulty obtaining the transcript, the court may grant further leave to amend on terms including payment of costs thrown away and a stay of proceedings.
