Where a sentencing judge follows the method of instinctive synthesis, it is not possible to infer from the length of the sentence alone that the judge erroneously double counted the fact that an offence was committed while on parole, by both treating it as an aggravating factor and partially accumulating the sentence on the balance of the parole period. The sentencing judge retains a broad discretion as to both the extent of accumulation and the weight given to commission of the offence while on conditional liberty.
