A sentence of 6 years and 3 months imprisonment (non-parole period 2 years and 9 months) for specially aggravated break, enter and commit reckless wounding under s 112(3) of the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW) was upheld where the offence occurred in a domestic context involving breaking into an internal room of a shared dwelling and a sustained knife attack, notwithstanding the offender's profoundly deprived background, Aboriginal heritage, mental health conditions including borderline personality disorder, and general good character. The domestic context and the fact that the 'break' was of an internal door did not render the sentence manifestly excessive given the objective seriousness of the sustained knife attack.
