The parity principle does not require similar sentences where co-offenders differ significantly in their objective criminality (active organiser versus reluctant introducer), subjective circumstances, and applicable sentencing discounts (40% versus 10%). On the equivalent basis (removing the discount differential), the co-offender's sentence of 4 years 6 months was not so disparate from the applicant's 4 years 11 months as to give rise to a justifiable sense of grievance given the remaining differences in objective seriousness and subjective circumstances.
