The parity principle does not require identical sentences for co-offenders where there are significant differences in their roles in the offending, criminal histories, and personal circumstances. A difference between 18 months imprisonment with immediate parole and 12 months wholly suspended does not constitute a marked disparity where the more heavily sentenced offender played the dominant role, wielded a weapon, had a more extensive criminal history including offences on bail, and had personal circumstances warranting parole supervision.
