For a quantum meruit claim for work done at the defendant's request, the only relevant matters are whether the work was performed, whether it was done at the defendant's request, and the reasonable value of the work. Defences based on the claimant's subsequent conduct, absence of benefit to the defendant, or general equitable considerations of unconscionability are not available. The 'inequitable in all the circumstances' analysis from Hills (applicable to money had and received claims) does not apply to this distinct restitutionary cause of action.
