A minimum non-parole period of 32 years for each of two counts of murder was upheld where the murders were committed during an aggravated home burglary with intent to kill, involved frenzied violence against vulnerable victims, and included sexual penetration of one victim, notwithstanding the offender's youth (aged 19) and early pleas of guilty. The usual approach of giving a percentage discount for an early plea of guilty does not apply to the fixing of a non-parole period consequent upon a head sentence of life imprisonment, though a plea of guilty to murder will ordinarily result in a significant discount to the minimum non-parole period.
