A sentence for production of methylamphetamine may be significantly reduced where the offender's role was limited to supplying materials (not actual manufacture), the quantity was small (approximately two grams), there was no personal financial gain, the offender cooperated fully with police from the outset, the offender was young with sole parenting responsibilities, and there was significant delay in proceedings. The case distinguishes R v Day & Gill and R v Sabine as inapplicable to offenders with limited participation, no profit motive, and full cooperation.
