The discount applied to a sentence for a convicted person's willingness to cooperate with authorities inherently encompasses the risk of incidental retributive violence whilst incarcerated and the position of danger in which such a person is placed. A sentencing judge is not required expressly to address the risk of retribution as a separate mitigating factor when applying the cooperation discount.
