Where a court cannot provisionally assess the strength of a proposed appeal because trial transcripts are unavailable, the interests of justice may still favour granting an extension of time to appeal, particularly where the applicant faces a very substantial period of imprisonment for a serious offence and the delay is short. Lack of legal representation and unawareness of the limitation period can constitute good reason for delay.
