A sentence of 5 years' imprisonment for dangerous driving causing death is not manifestly excessive where the offender drove with known severely impaired eyesight while disqualified and had a history of driving while disqualified. When assessing proportionality of a non-parole period, the relevant comparison is between the non-parole period and the combined sentences the offender is required to serve, including pre-existing sentences under s 14(1) of the Sentencing Act 1991 (Vic), not merely the total effective sentence imposed in the instant case.
