A sentencing judge who conducts the required instinctive synthesis in relation to multiple counts with different Form 1 offences attached is not required to create an artificial distinction between counts by adding or subtracting weeks or months merely to demonstrate a difference not perceived, where the same indicative sentence is reached for each count. The parity principle does not require closer alignment of sentences where co-offenders occupied significantly different roles within a criminal syndicate.
