A total effective sentence of 5 years 8 months' imprisonment for two counts of possession of methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply (5.32g and 11.37g), unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen property — where the later offences were committed while on bail — does not infringe the first limb of the totality principle. The combination of drug dealing with firearms possession places offending into a more serious category, and personal circumstances favourable to the offender are substantially offset by persistence in offending while on bail.
